Sarah East wouldn’t have considered abandoning her tomboyish ways if she hadn’t been smitten by Alaric Naughton, Earl of Reyne. And her efforts appeared useless, as she met disaster every time she came in contact with the dashing peer. But Alaric had already noticed that the lovely, spirited Sarah was everything a lady should be. Regency Romance by Cynthia Bailey Pratt; originally published by Jove

I really enjoyed this book at the beginning, it was funny and engaging. The h was sweet and the H seemed a decent guy. You could feel the budding romance. But...at some point the story switched and she became a huge pushover and he was arrogant with little to no insight of his own feelings or how his actions affected her reputation. Honestly, she seemed a little more like a girl creepily obsessed with her first crush than a young woman who felt a deep and abiding love. We always get the HEA with regency romances so it is not really a spoiler to say that when he finally realizes he's in love and wants to marry her he just tells her. Not the romantic gesture I had waded through all those pages hoping for! From a technical standpoint I thought the writing was good and the author seemed to adhere to the rules of the time period. If some of the silly drama toward the end was taken out I probably would have had a better liking for it overall. I did read the whole book and I'm not one of those people who keeps reading if I really don't like a book (life is too short) but I did skim for the last 10% or so.
From a personal standpoint I hate it when a character is saying something and nobody is listening or they are just dismissing him/her. This happened at the end and it was not only frustrating but also a not believable plot contrivance.
